Today’s News is forced to pay Skyttedal – Aftonbladet

Today’s News is forced to pay Sara Skyttedal for images that the magazine taken from her Facebook page.

KD-politician welcomes the verdict and intends to celebrate with champagne.

– There is a flat on the cooling, she says to Aftonbladet.

DN sees this ruling as a victory – because it gives the newspaper the right to publish the most controversial images.

the Dispute between the Today’s News and the KD-politician Sara Skyttedal was settled in the patent and market court in Stockholm today.

Sara Skyttedal have sued the DN because she claims that the magazine stole and posted private pictures from her Facebook page. The court considers that Today’s News had the right to use some of the pictures, the ones that show the KD-politicians Sara Skyttedal and Ebba Busch Thor at or in the military vehicles in the Israel. On the other hand, the court held that it was justified to use all of the photographs, such as landscapes or group shots.

According to the judgment, shall DN pay 10 000 sek to Sara Skyttedal. The court also considers that the DN should have entered Skyttedal as a photographer. At the same time, both Skyttedal and DN have to bear their own costs.

– It is with great relief that I read the judgment. It has been a case where it has been legally very unclear what the outcome would be, ” said Sara Skyttedal.

"Drink like champagne"

After the verdict will Skyttedal be able to meet the christmas season with more peace, ” she says.

– I am glad that the right now taken the position that DN’t have had the right to publish pictures of friends who have not been involved in this so-called news, landscapes and other vacation photos as not had anything newsworthy. Whopping profit for all who think that man has the right to privacy even on the internet.

What do you think of DN’s behaviour in this process?

– I wish I had been able to pay the invoice that I sent in for a year and a half ago. For their part, it becomes incredibly costly, because they get to stand up for their legal costs; 370 000, and so they must pay me 10 000.

How will you celebrate this?

– I am a person who like to drink champagne at the wins, there is a flat on the cooling and we’ll take then.

DN welcomes the verdict

Dagens Nyheter editor-in-chief Caspar Opitz also welcome the judgment.

– I am happy that the court has established the principle that rulers who do controversial things shall be reviewed, and you should be able to publish pictures of it also. It was important to us in this goal, ” he says.

Caspar Opitz says that the DN should have written out that it was Skyttedal who took the pictures. The newspaper should not have published naturbilderna.

– You can sum it up with that we published a bit of many pictures. But the important images, the ones on the Ebba Busch Thor and Sara Skyttedal at arméfordon, was right to publish.

Famous people have been involved

the Dispute is about Facebook pictures on the KD-politicians Sara Skyttedal and Ebba Busch Thor, during a trip to Israel in 2009 that the daily News published in march 2015. Sara Skyttedal sued DN for copyright infringement and demanded compensation of 28 000 kronor. DN has called Skyttedals allegations "baseless" and refused to pay. The newspaper believes that the images used in investigative purpose, which justified the publication.
