Panasonic opens the wallet when Tesla builds new factory – IDG.see

the Batteries from the japanese company is already in a number of Elon Musks Tesla models. Now they have both of the company have taken their relationship one step further with an investment in the billions. It is the Panasonic that opens the wallet and help with 2.36 billion for the construction of a solpanelsfabrik. Previously, Panasonic has gone into Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada.

in return for the investment in the factory, to be built in the u.s. state of New York, Tesla promised to continue to buy Panasonic products. In addition to that they also stand for the factory building and infrastructure, writes Reuters. In a blog post writes, the Tesla factory will manufacture Panasonic’s high-efficiency solar panels and modules. If it is the same type of panels that Panasonic already manufacture is not clear. The use of several thin layers of silicone, two-sided celldesign and heat-resistant structure in order to produce energy in a more efficient way.

Tesla writes that Panasonic’s technology could be used to take out the ceiling tiles of the solar panels that elbilstillverkaren presented in the fall. The plan is that they shall be manufactured in the new factory, next to the more traditional solar panels, writes Ars Technica. The factory is expected to generate 1, 400 jobs, of which 500 are in production. Production is slated to begin in the summer of 2017.

Panasonic have in recent years changed course slightly. From to almost entirely focus on consumer products with low margins, to the more business-oriented corporate customers. Earlier this year bought a Tesla up Solarcity, the company installing the solar panels and had Elon Musk as chairman of the board.
