Volvo and Autoliv together on autonomous car – New Technology

Volvo cars and Autoliv forming a joint company to develop technology for self-driving cars. The technology will also be sold to others than Volvo.

It is unclear what the new company will be called, but it should start operations in 2017 and begin delivery in 2019.

the company must be developed both advanced driver assistance systems, Ada, and autonomous systems, ad, to be used in Volvo cars, but that Autoliv also can sell to other automakers.

Autoliv and Volvo Cars is licensing the intellectual property rights Adas for their systems to the new company and will be based on the development of new products in the field of autonomous driving. New technologies for driver assistance expected to hit the market in 2019 and the technology completely self-driving cars two years later.

The CEO of the new company will be Dennis Nobelius who is currently CEO of Volvo Cars Switzerland. He was previously responsible for the development of Volvo’s 90 series.
