Spotify to fierce attack on Apple: “Using the App Store as a weapon” – MacWorld

The War of music listeners favor escalate. Spotify claims namely that Apple will take the dishonest methods to gain advantage over competitor – by blocking the latest iOS update of Spotify app. This is according to a letter sent to both Apple’s legal department and the US Congress.

– We can no longer look on as Apple uses the App Store approval process as a weapon against competitors, writes Spotify’s general counsel Horacio Guiterrez in the letter .

Apple claims in turn that the update was rejected because of violation of the rules. Programs that are found on the App Store, namely the use of Apple’s own payment service, including subscription services like Spotify in the case. In addition, Apple takes 30 percent of the fees. Spotify has previously criticized Apple’s methodology and argues that these harms other music.

Spotify recently launched a campaign in which customers were urged to extend their abonemmang on its own website instead of iOS application, in return for a discount. According to Horacio Guiterrez Apple should then have threatened to remove Spotify from the App Store unless the campaign ended.
