Microsoft misses billion target for Windows 10 – blames mobiles – IDG.se

Last year, Microsoft on the goal of Windows 10 must be running at one billion units during the middle of 2018. Now, peeling it down the target and blame the company’s mobiles:

– We are pleased with the progress so far. But because we focused on the manufacture phones, it will take longer to reach the goal, writes Yusuf Mehdi, vice president at Microsoft, in an email to IDG News.

One problem for Microsoft is that the missed targets make it even more difficult to attract developers to Windows 10, especially mobile developers.

Gartner analyst Steve Kleynhaus think Microsoft can still reach the goal that Windows 10 will run on a billion units. The only question is when it will be. There is anyway already 350 million devices with Windows 10. Add to that it can be upgraded for free to the operating system until the end of July and that many companies are rolling out the latest Windows version.

given that sales of new PCs will not lead to as many cheer shouts so Microsoft should look around the new Windows 10 users among those who run the Xbox and smart phones. Of today’s 350 million Windows 10 devices that are 340 million PCs, tablets and hybrids, so there is definitely room to grow on game consoles and smart phones.

The problem so far is that basically no one wants a Windows Phone and it there are no indications that this attitude will change.
