Hyper Loop in Sweden – so much does it cost – Swedish Dagbladet

During the Almedalen Week presented the American company Hyper Loop One possibility for Sweden and Finland to annually save billion in abbreviated journey through the futuristic transportation solution Hyper Loop.

the technology, designed by the super-entrepreneur Elon Musk, reminiscent of a rörpostssytem and should be eliminated by air resistance reaching a top speed of 1000 kilometers per hour. In the desert north of Lase Vegas in the United States are already under construction of a test tunnel – and now hopes Hyper Loop One, whose founder also has close links to the author Elon Musk, to Europe’s first Hyper Loop end up in Sweden.

The company wants build a 500-km-long corridor between Stockholm and Helsinki, where travelers could carry out the trip between the two capitals on the unbelievable 28 minutes. That compares with the current travel time of 3.5 hours by ferry or plane.

Surrounding connections such as from Stockholm to Arlanda airport would only take a few minutes. Quick link could also solve the Stockholm housing situation because more could move out to the suburbs, says Hyper Loop One, which runs the initiative together with the Åland-based consortium FS Links.

Now, the company also developed a charge publishers for the project in cooperation with KPMG, Ramboll and the law firm Setterwalls.

How big will be the safety distance between each capsule? What happens if the technology fails and how you go over to manual mode?

Bring the whole building would stop the price tag of just over 160 billion, according to the report. Hyper Loop recognize that there are high amounts of money, but considering that the speed, frequency and comfort would open up a new hub for the 5 million people, with 43 million commuters and a turnover of SEK 9.5 billion per year. They also draws parallels with the jobs created by the construction of the Øresund Bridge.

– Our analyzes show that Hyper Loop saving time for commuters and generates incredible economic benefits for the cities and regions. Hyper Loop is ready to take a new step and start the construction, said Rob Lloyd, president of Hyper Loop One in a statement.

The price is also lower than the 230 billion planned for Sweden höghastighetstågsprojekt, with a top speed at 320 km / h, about a third of Hyperloops estimated speed.

To manage construction company costs suggest that construction can be divided into the respective capital. In this way, investors would be able to earn money before it is more cost-intensive pipeline tunnel will be constructed through the Baltic Sea. The first step would then take eight years, while the international link is expected to take another four years.

While there are still questions surrounding the technology, says Bjorn Hazel Branch, a researcher at the Institute of Technology in Stockholm with expertise in transport and earlier Chairman of the infrastructure Commission.

– Cost proposal builds on good surfaces. But there is great uncertainty about what the technology actually costs, he says.

He says that Hyper Loop so far are based on theoretical models and hopes. It is therefore unclear whether the Hyper Loop connection between Sweden and Finland are on budget.

There are also technical challenges, under the hazel branch.

– How big will the safety distance should be between each capsule? What happens if the technology fails and how you go over to manual operation? How to connect a Hyper Loop track with existing railroad tracks?

It is precisely to demonstrate the technology skills that Hyper Loop One company started the construction of a test facility in the United States. The idea is that at the end of 2016 or beginning of 2017, demonstrating a full-scale high-speed test for both the pipeline track and capsule.

As late as in July, the company has also signed a letter of intent the Finnish town of Salo to analyze the effects of a 50-kilometer long test connection to Turku, which counts as the first part of the planned network. Other governments around the world have shown interest and recently signed Slovak state contract with a Hyper Loop business, to evaluate the possibilities of technology.

On the Swedish side include parliamentarian Mathias Sundin (L) shown interest. But Infrastructure Minister Anna Johansson (S) do not think it is the government’s task to examine whether Sweden should adopt Hyper Loop.

Basically still think Hasselgren that it is good to Hyper Loop challenge the existing transport system.

– it was a long time since we had a revolutionary form of transport and it is fun and innovative that several companies have started development. The most important thing with this is there is the potential to bring the regions closer together. Then there is the Hyper Loop, or an ordinary train remains to be seen.
