Migration Board: “A regrettable situation”

Ulrika Langels is the press officer at the Swedish Migration Board. Asked if it does not affect the family’s case that they are so well established, so she replies that the decision was made several years ago.

– It is a very regrettable situation when children and young people who followed their parents and stayed in Sweden for years after the rejection of the application for a residence permit, want to stay but do not get it, she says.

the changes in the law on the reception of asylum seekers came into force on 1 June this year. About 4 500 people affected by the change, according to Ulrika Langels at the Migration Board.

– We understand that many people with rejection affected in a major way. Many have been long in Sweden and even though they have been refused asylum, they have built up their own life here. That which gives legitimacy to the asylum system, however, is that those who are in need of protection, residence and stay, and that those who do not have protection return to their home countries, she said.
