Regions puts 200 million on IT housekeeping – New Technology

The County Council of Stockholm will be very clean among their IT systems. About four years, the number of systems have shrunk from 1600 to half.

The care is notorious for being tricky when it comes to IT systems. Now, the Stockholm County Council has decided to pick up the brush cutter and clean up their 1600 IT systems and applications.

The County Council has allocated SEK 216 million extra in its budget between 2017 and 2020 to fund the cleanup. The goal is to at least halve the number of systems from the 1600 in use today.

In addition, the systems are coordinated so that the same versions are used in different hospitals to ease when the information is sent back and forth.

Succeed cleanup expects the county to save a billion in reduced costs for operation, licensing and support costs over a decade. But the big profits will come through better IT environment will save time for employees.

– The future of health information environment, health care workers do not have to make multiple logins or juggle multiple systems. They must be intelligent and useful IT tools that enhance patient safety and facilitate modern methods and easier interaction with patients and research, says innovation County Commissioner Daniel Forslund (L) in a statement.

In parallel with the cleanup invest Stockholm County Council also 2.2 billion in a new iT system for health care. The investment is made in cooperation with Region Västra Götaland and the idea is that the two major regions to conduct a joint procurement of the central systems. The planning for the procurement begins to fall.
