Shortly after the bell 13 today, the planet Mercury passes between the earth and the sun, the most spectacular astronomical event of the year.

by the Mercury Passage was visible from our latitudes was in 2003, so the event is not very unusual.

the small planet will begin their trek across the solar disk around 13.15 and can be perceived as a dark small dot. The planet is so small relative to the sun to a telescope or binoculars are almost a must. But look certainly not with the eyes unprotected – special protection is a must!

Just as with a solar eclipse you have to be careful to protect the eyes against harmful wavelengths. People, have no sensation in the fundus such damage occurs where not detected until later ch then it is usually too late.

Passage centrally over the sun’s disk lasts approximately about six hours and takes place only when the planet is in alignment with the sun and the earth. The first confirmed sighting of a Transit of Mercury were made by Pierre Gassendi in 1631 for calculations of Johannes Kepler.
