Now everyone can buy into the photovoltaic installation – New Technology

Uppsala company invests in microfinance of solar electricity for household use.

Right now installed 360 square meters of solar cells, from the local company Save by Solar, an industrial roof in Uppsala. The electricity produced will be used in the property, but anyone can buy ownership in solar cell plant to compensate for their own consumption.

The project called Watt for watt, and began in January with partial funding from the Swedish Energy Agency and the Energy Research Institute of the SolEl -the program. Behind the idea is Joachim Lindborg, technical manager of energy efficiency at the company Sustainable Innovation, as well as “leisure entrepreneur” (his own expression).

– The starting point was the question: how do you get people to think this is funny? People who join the photovoltaic cooperatives and the like – it is usually enthusiasts who are willing to spend a lot of money and commitment into it. Should I get everyday consumers to buy solar panels, you have to make it very, very simple, says Joachim Lindborg.

As the micro financier pay-per-watt installed solar cells. The price is expected to land at 20 to 25 per watt of today’s price point.

– What you are buying is really the solar cell as a service for 15 years. You pay for the right to say that you own a piece of solar panel for renewable electricity and contributes to a better world, says Joachim Lindborg.

The 360 square meters in Uppsala will be equivalent to 31 500 watts.

– It’s enough for about 10 000 customers will be able to buy three watts each. This corresponds to three kilowatt hours per year, about what the iPhone 5 draws. Via online, you then updates on how much your cell produces.

Micro financiers will also be offered an annual refund of the value they help to generate.

– But we also want to investigate how customers look at the project. Would they prefer to be involved and get rebates on some coins, or are they happy to be micro-finance and contribute to the production of renewable electricity? In this case, the money can remain in the project and go to investments in more solar cells, says Joachim Lindborg.

He makes no bones that the goal is to build a growing business with the help of associates micro investments.

– Sure, one might think that such a project should be run by a foundation. But it is through these kinds of new business models to create new commitment and drive strong business in the future, says Joachim Lindborg.

The installation is expected to be completed during this week. The grand launch will take place on Almedalsveckan in July.

The next step will be to build solar panels in Poland and launching Watt for watt model there as well.

– The best is if the cells sit where they do the most good, where the grid contains the most fossil-generated electricity, says Joachim Lindborg.
