Money drawn into the criticized research corneas – Sveriges Radio

For the third time ever, the Swedish Research Council brought in money for a scientist because of unethical research. Director General of the Research Council Sven Stafström think it was an obvious decision.

– It was quite clear that we would land in the conclusion. The researcher has acted dishonestly, repeated negligence and wrong with writing.

A total of Professor granted ten million crowns, but it is the 1.6 million crowns, which have not yet been paid out as now freezing inside.

the last pocket money withdrawn by the Research Council was surgeon Paolo Macchiarini who operated artificial trachea, and which is now laid off from Karolinska institutet.

the reason for the criticism against the professor in Linköping, her artificial corneas underwent surgery in almost blind people in Ukraine before the membranes had been adequately tested on animals.

the criticized professor does not accept that she would have acted dishonestly, and therefore appeal both decisions at Linköping University of misconduct and the Research Council’s decision on withdrawal of money.

– I have no idea what the criticism is about. I think the main criticism was that we had not done some animal experiments. It’s something I really do not understand, she says to the Swedish Research Council.

The professor believes that she certainly made enough animal studies, but Science Radio review of the material confirms the picture that the University’s external auditors provide animal experiments.

by subject in Linköping are not yet completely settled, no decisions have been made about the labor action, which can include everything from embroiled pay to dismissal.
