Violate Telia’s new campaign against net neutrality? – Resume

Today, Telia launched the campaign that allows free surfing on social media, and now are criticized for violating net neutrality. Jonas Hasselberg at Telia believes, however, that they are not doing anything wrong, but welcomes the debate.

Already, the newly launched campaign that offers free surfing Telia Customers criticized. The criticism is based on the fact that many believe that Telia and its campaign violates net neutrality as the only offering free browsing in selected apps: Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, Twitter and Kik. Net neutrality is in turn based on the principle that all web traffic should be treated equally regardless of sender, recipient, platform, or content.

In Telia’s Facebook page can among other things read comments like “Telia, are you familiar with the concept of net neutrality? Is you are aware that you secrete the internet? ” and “Net neutrality, all services should have the same priority. That you reward some services over others is shameful.” Emanuel Charles Stone also express their critical opinions in the chronicle “Telia’s new sour cream kills the dream of a free Internet” on Breakit, and writes: “The Internet as we know it is changing. Net neutrality is becoming a concept reserved for romantics . A crime against it starting now called “commercial development”. “

Jonas Hasselberg , head of Telia’s consumer business, however, mean that they do not violate net neutrality. He emphasizes two factors that make the following regulations for net neutrality.

– We do not prioritize different traffic in our networks, but all traffic is shared equally. Furthermore, this is a partnership between the services and there is no exclusivity. These are the services we have launched now, but the forward is no restriction on other services.

Can it get more services where you can surf for free?

– Yes, it could do, we are in dialogue with other potential partners.

at Telia one also sees positive about the debate that has arisen around net neutrality, and considers it an important issue for them.

– we think this is a very important debate, and we are of course for net neutrality. But at the same time we also want to be able to respond to our customers’ needs and offer them more surfing.
