Telia is open for free Facebook Surf – New Technology

Free surfing on social media to attract customers to Telia’s mobile network. First up is the four Facebook Services as well as Twitter and Kik.

Service traffic Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Messenger, Twitter and Kik will not be deducted from customers’ monthly data set with Telia.

– Social media is super important to our customers. Not only to share vacation photos, but to communicate with family and close friends. Telia is responsible for communications and want to do it in a way that feels limitless, said Jonas Hasselberg, head of Telia’s Consumer business.

The free surfen applies to two of Telia subscriptions and for all traffic consumed by the current social networking sites and apps. This means that if the customer follows a link from Facebook to YouTube to watch a movie starts data traffic is counted against the monthly pot. If the customer where to looking a clip directly on Facebook is not affected surf pot.

To provide some social services the sour cream to the consumer is not without controversy. At the end of the entry of new EU rules in force as saying that traffic over the Internet must not be discriminated against. Telia is careful to emphasize that the company does not prioritize traffic from the selected services other than that it will be free for the customer.

– We think net neutrality is important, yet it is so clearly from our customers that this is a need that exists. We must be able to drive innovation and meet our customers’ needs, said Jonas Hasselberg.

He welcomes all social media services that connect with Telia to make similar arrangements as those Facebook, Twitter and Kik have done. To define what social media is all about is not simply for Telia. The company’s definition is that the service will focus on communication between people and groups, but it is not all the way. For example, do not fit Google’s YouTube or Gmail as social according to Telia.

– Everyone will have their definition of social media, but we have chosen one that means that these six services are with, says Jonas Hesselberg.

He do not believe that free surfing Telia’s network will benefit Facebook in competition with other social networks.

– I do not think so. 75 percent of Swedes now use Facebook and I think it is driven by customer needs, not what Telia does, says Jonas Hesselberg.

Post and Telecom Agency, the authority supervising the Swedish operators, they say Telia’s new service is interesting from a nätneutralitetsperspektiv. But authority provides no review of Telia’s free surf before the new rules come into force on 30 April.
