First impression: Huawei & P9 P9 Plus – Mobile

If we ignore all the superlatives Huawei itself uttered during the more than two-hour presentation, we can focus on what we can actually observe when we felt on the phones.

It feels most new here is of course the camera with two camera lenses, both with Leica lenses and two camera sensors, an RGB sensor and a monochrome sensor. The reason that there are two cameras on the back, I come back to, but as soon as you turn the camera you notice in any case clear that the interface is simple. A sweep to the right shows the different shooting modes and a sweep to the left settings like resolution, and more. This makes the photo view can be liberating clean but the settings are still only a step away. However, it can be a bit difficult to understand if you mix in even professionals state that opens with a swipe up the screen, you probably can get lost in.

Why two cameras?
> What is the reason for having two cameras, one might wonder. That there is a color sensor and a black and white will make it possible to take really good black and white images, but also the color reproduction and the focus should be better in all the pictures you take, since the two sensors interact. Sony says the camera sensor (12 MP IMX286 sensor) and Leica Camera lenses (Leica SUMMARIT H 1: 2.2 / 27 ASPH). Just picture quality is difficult to determine on the spot right now because the demo phones we test mired in the tables and the motives are few. According to Huawei themselves to the camera in P9 thanks to this solution with two sensors let in 90 percent more light than the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and 270 percent more light than the camera in the iPhone 6s but I see no sign of when I compare these cameras place in the demo room. Nor when I unmarked been able to test the camera in P9 outdoor performing the obviously better than competing top phones.

Black and white real
Huawei seems to strive to take advantage of the two sensors not only for black and white images, but also for quick and good focus. The focus in the phone uses three different techniques depending on the subject. In the short distance working laser, from a distance interacts the two lenses to like your eyes develop depth perception a single lens can not handle the same way. And then the phone has an imaging sensor that is pursuing. After testing the camera a bit further, I think it can be a little slow at taking the picture sometimes. Special function to make background blur gives no good results, but the manual focus, I appreciate.

More metal
If we look at the phone in general, the course Huawei’s latest processor Kirin 955 (2.5 GHz x 4 and 4 x 1.8 GHz) . Memory configuration differs depending on the model you choose, and the battery in P9 is of 3000 mAh while in P9 Plus is of 3400 mAh. Design wise, the phone is no big change. Rather, almost all the same as its predecessor. Should you highlight something, I appreciate the brushed metal which feels a bit more rugged than Huawei usually offer and provides a little more impact and scratch resistant impression. Probably the cameras and the right metal casing that stands out at one this fast first impression. We get the opportunity to come back to both of these phones when we familiarized ourselves more with them.
