The FBI has locked up the phone, but Apple – 99mac

The acclaimed encryption case is closed, then the FBI managed to get into the phone without Apple’s help , using an unknown method.

the US Federal police FBI has been able to access the information in the iPhone 5C, which belonged to one of the criminals in the San Bernardino case. This has been done without Apple’s help, show documentation from a court in California that also means that the case against Apple closed down.

The Agency has not reported the details of how they behaved to get into the phone, or whether they found no relevant information there. An anonymous official source stated to CNN that it is too early to say if the method works on different iPhone models. The source could only confirm that the method worked on an iPhone 5C with the operating system IOS ninth

As 99mac previously reported, Apple has opposed the FBI’s demands for the company to develop a special version of IOS which makes it possible to circumvent the built-in security features of the system that erases the contents of the wrong passcode is pressed too many times. Last week, the FBI said that they received help from an “outside source” which was reported to be security company Cellebrite.

Apple has also released a statement to The Verge. The company does not comment on the fact that the FBI managed to circumvent the phone’s security, but writes among other things:

– From the beginning we were against the FBI: s claims that Apple would build a backdoor into an iPhone, because we felt that it was wrong and would create a dangerous precedent. As a result, the case is closed, none of this happened. This case should never have been initiated.

We will continue to help the police with their inquiries, and we will continue to enhance the safety of our products as the threats and attacks on our data becoming more common and more sophisticated.
