Swedish courts warns of scam emails – Aftonbladet

The e-mails appear to come from the Swedish courts and concerns that you should appear for trial.

But that clicks can be hit by a virus and then forced to pay thousands to get their computer unlocked.

– They get into a lot of money, I can promise you, says Jan Olsson on the police national fraud center.

in recent days the messages that appear to come from the Swedish courts emailed to individuals.

” in order to confirm to the court that you have been given notice to attend the trial, you should sign and return the acknowledgment letter accompanying the notice, “reads the message.

But the emails do not come from the Swedish courts – and anyone who clicks the link may encounter a malicious virus on their computer or mobile.

– It is known as ransomware. You get up an information box on the screen where it says my files are locked, and to get the keys to unlock them you have to pay, says Jan Olsson, the preliminary investigation on the police national fraud center.

Multi Millions

this is not the first time the method used. Last fall, spread a virus through an email that appeared to come from PostNord. People who clicked on the link were forced to pay thousands to unlock their computers or phones.

– It usually costs one-half or one bitcoin (about 1750-3500 SEK). They are relatively low sums for them to get as much money as possible – and much money, that they get in, I can promise you. The real figure is huge. I know there are many millions who have paid, overall, says Mr Olsson.

No country can investigate

On its website, warns the Swedish courts for the hoax and urges victims to report the fraud to the the police.

But according to Jan Olsson, there is not much the police can do.

– Bitcoinen can at best detect a bitcoinplånbok. But you do not know who owns it, and why is this so waterproof. To investigate this police is capable enough no country.
