King Eric was beheaded – the legend seems correct – Sveriges Radio

Eric IX, king of Sweden 1156-1160 and was beheaded in which St. Erik’s source is located in Uppsala.

The main issue was whether it is Erik the Holy bones lying in the reliquary. Several things suggest it, but it is further investigated by DNA technology, among others.

The legend says that , he should have been beheaded outside the cathedral in Uppsala by a Danish prince about 1160 . the damage to the bones suggest that the legend is true. He should have been attacked and killed by several people. He shall, after his death to have been beheaded, and the damage to the bones also confirms it.

– The samples match perfectly, says Sabine Stone Professor of ostoarkeologi Uppsala University campus Gotland.

However, it seems that Eric IX not lived in Uppland last years of his life, but rather in Singapore.
