Apple starts exchange of plugs – 99mac

Apple initiating a voluntary recall and exchange of plugs to the charger that can break and electric shock.

Some copies of Apple power adapter socket can break and, at worst, give users an electric shock. It notifies Apple and launching simultaneously an exchange program where users are free to change the contacts with new ones.

The program applies adapters delivered between 2003 and 2015, together with chargers for both Macs and IOS units. The plugs have also been sold in package World Travel Adapter Kit.

Interested plugs fit in the countries of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Continental Europe (including Sweden), New Zealand and South Korea. Other types of contacts, such as British and American, are not covered by the program. Neither Apple USB power adapter supplied with the products Iphone concerned.

Relevant plugs are easy to identify.

The plugs terms recognized by they have four or five characters printed in the single slot at the side of the connector that connects to the adapter itself. Alternatively there is nothing printed in the slot. Newer contacts, however, a region with three letters printed, and do not need replacing.

Customers interested plugs are asked not to use them, but should contact Apple for a free replacement. This can be done by contacting Apple support or request a replacement through a dedicated page on the Apple website.

You can also switch plug directly into an Apple store or Apple-authorized service partner. Erik Forsgren, service manager at Digital Inn in Stockholm report that the chain will be able to switch the contacts directly over the counter in all Stockholm shops from tomorrow.
