Apple hires an expert in virtual reality – 99mac

Apple has hired one of America’s leading experts on virtual reality, and everything more indications now that the company is planning something in the field.

In the technology world is one of the hottest trends right now # virtual reality, and both HTC Vive, Playstation VR and Oculus Rift will be launched in the consumer versions below year.

Apple has not yet announced anything in the area, but there are signs yet that the company is planning something in VR. Now Engadget reports that Apple hired a leading expert in virtual reality, namely Doug Bowman from Virginia Tech. Bougman has been head of the university department for interaction between humans and computers in five years. Here’s a video where Bowman interviewed about their work.

Bougman has experience of virtual reality and the so-called # augmented reality, where a pair of glasses is drawing virtual images and 3d models on top of a real environment. Both Google and Microsoft engaged in augmented reality through the products Google Glass and Microsoft Hololens. Bougman has previously received a grant from Microsoft for innovative applications to the right Hololens.

Apple has also recently bought several companies with expertise in VR and AR. In May last year, Apple bought up German Metaio dealing with augmented reality, and in November was purchased Face Shift, a company that can digitize a person’s movements and facial expressions. At the beginning of this year, Apple bought Emotient, a company whose technology uses artificial intelligence to interpret facial expressions.
