Big IT crash in Hudiksvall Municipality – almost nothing works – IDG.se

No telephone, no e-mail and no record systems in health care. At four o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, something went wrong with virtualization in Hudiksvall municipal IT systems – and still there is no solution in sight.

– We are not predictions, but we expect that we will be down for a few days, says the municipality’s IT strategist Ronny Lundberg to Computer Sweden.

The fault seems to lie in the Microsoft virtualization platform Hyper-V. Unable to mount disks and no virtual machines will be started.

 - We have a cluster of two machines in charge of the system, and it must be possible to switch roles between machines so that one is passive and one active. It was when the active role changed over to the other node as it took off. Since then we have not got it going again, says Ronny Lundberg.

Virtually all activities in the municipality affected in one way or another. At first lay everything down from the telephone exchange, website and e-mails, to record systems in health care and secondary schools online tools. Since the error occurred last Wednesday, some systems, notably in health care, lifted out of the IT environment and gone to get started, but most of them are still down.

Hudiksvall Municipality has contacted both the supplier and system consultants who have worked on the problem without success to fix it.

 - We have a case of Microsoft, which is escalated to the highest level, but the gang has not been inside and looked yet, says Ronny Lundberg.

He considers that the municipality’s emergency management functioned as it should under the circumstances, although many important IT services, including municipal e-mail, still does not work.

 - It is clear that we will do an analysis of what happened and what we can do in the future to avoid this. It is far too early to comment specifically, but obviously we will follow up and make sure we do not fall into the same situation again.
