Popcorn Time down for good after internal strife – IDG.se

Popcorn Time

> The illegal streaming service Popcorn Time has had the least windy week, the result is that the popular client Popcorntime.io put down.

all started in Monday when several of the client’s developers chose to defect and the service was shut down, reports TorrentFreak. During the week, they tried that still participated in the project to get it going again, but on Friday awarded the final death blow.

– I closed all the servers, there’s nothing more I can do. I have deleted all the logs that can be harmful to other developers, announced one of the site’s developers called Wally.

The cause must be denial of service attacks, threats of legal action from several film companies, and some of the developers’ moral qualms.

 - Since I originally joined the project has changed the way that my involvement is no longer possible either legally or morally, wrote another of the developers in a now deleted forum posts that The Next Web has published.

Popcorn Time is based on open source and anyone can build their own client. Therefore, there are still several smaller versions online, but Popcorntime.io has become the largest client since the original service shut down in March last year.

Some of the developers behind the project are continuing with a new service called Butter. It is based on the same technology Popcorn Time, but should only contain copyright-free material.
