From a Swedish perspective, it was above all one thing became clear during this year’s E3: Games Sweden is hotter than ever. And among the most prolific is Stockholm-based Avalanche.

Mad Max, The Avalanches interpretation of the classic license, was actually supposed to be released last year, but after a longer delay is instead set to launch in September this year. The timing may seem strange. The fourth film in the series premiered earlier this spring, and traditionally tend game released for the same period in order to ride the wave. Emil Kraft Ling, chief designer at Avalanche, is aware of this and explains that one of the biggest challenges has been to create something interesting in a world that consists of only desert landscape.

– We have chosen not to see it as a desert, but rather as a place in the world after the great disaster. World takes place in and around a former big city, and you can see where, for example, the port and the water once stood. Everything is still there, and this approach has meant that it has been extremely fun to work with Mad Max.

Another thing which differs Mad Max from many other similar games, not least from the Avalanche own Just Cause, is that there is more action driven.

– It is has been an interesting and exciting challenge for us. We want to be able to do everything that studio, and this gave us the opportunity to take on a more serious world than we have previously done. Just Cause series has a more light-hearted humor, here is the darker. But we have not lost the entertainment, this is after all not something Ingmar Bergman epic.
