Roaming charges in the EU away 2017 – New Technology

In ten years, mobile operators additional charges when using mobile phones abroad gradually pushed down by an initiative of the European Commission.

For example, roaming charges for mobile data use today 91 percent lower than they were in 2007.

In the negotiations, the goal was to have abolished roaming charges completely in 2015, but now it will be sooner than 15 juni 2017.

Yet another escalation of the additional fees towards the total abolition becomes in April 2016, when the operators can charge a maximum surcharge of 5 euro cents per call minute, 5 eurocents per MB of data and 2 euro cents per text message sent, excluding VAT. It is 75 percent lower than current roaming add-on calls and data traffic, evidenced by a press release.

Before the decision to enter into force it must be formally approved by the EU Parliament and Council of Ministers.
