Many consider it to be an affront to Confederate flag still hoisted outside government buildings in the south – when the Yanks struggled to maintain slavery during the American Civil War.

“Let’s eradicate racism”

One of these companies is Apple.

Apple now requires the game developer self-censor their games on the App Store if they want to remain in the store. In a statement to the mobile site TouchArcade writes Apple that only games that make use of the Confederate flag at a “abusive or malicious manner” at risk gestures – but in practice it seems a different policy apply.

Historic game disappeared

TouchArcade mean that many wargame set during the Civil War has become removed plucked from the App Store. This despite the fact that Apple explicitly said that it does not intend to move the games that use the Confederate flag for educational purposes or in a historical context.

Eurogamer spoke with Hexwar Games Andrew Mulholland whose many Civil War game is no longer to be found on the App Store.

– We have asked Apple to investigate our apps again because they have a historical context. Hopefully, they will be reinstated in the store in its original form, but we do not know yet. If not, we will change the Confederate flag in the Games to the less controversial version of the 1861st
