Spotify is investing in video and pods – Aftonbladet become the company’s supplier – Today’s Media

     Daniel Ek and Jan Scherman.

UPDATED. Jan Scherman, director of Aftonbladet TV, describing the new collaboration with Spotify as a “fantastic voyage” which now begins.

At a press conference in New York, in the afternoon today Swedish time, reveals Daniel Ek new Spotify – which should include video, pods and news.

The company has signed agreements with 50 content providers around the world – including the BBC, NBC, ESPN, ABC, Deputy News and Comedy Central – all of which should fill Spotify with the moving image.

One of Spotify’s partners are also Aftonbladet TV.

– We are obviously very excited. This is a big and important step for us, says Jan Scherman, President of Aftonbladet TV, to Dagens Media.

Aftonbladet TV will initially deliver a couple of programs from youth initiative Boom, and podcasts are Case and Robert Lauls football podcast .

– then the idea is that it will grow along the way. The amount is not critical right now, but it is to be part of the amazing journey that Spotify now gets rolling, said Jan Scherman.

Why is this so important for Aftonbladet TV?

– In this new TV world, which differs enormously from the previous one, is a major objective, and that is to be where the users are.

– Spotify is the world’s largest music service, they are in some sixty countries, and they have – it’s easy to figure out – very many users. Young users, not least, and it is amazing that we can meet them with our content on the service.

The cooperation with Spotify is part of a clear ambition from Aftonbladet TV’s side to work harder with the distribution of the company’s TV content.

– In the old world of television was not possible to launch a television channel if one was not at Com Hem. The time is past, the individual distributor’s power is over. Now we have our own home base, where everything should be, but we will also spread out goodies on other platforms. It is also why we cooperate with SBS Discovery of “Crime Centre ‘.

What happened when you got to this partnership?

– Since For a long time I have a good relationship with Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon (Spotify’s founder, editor’s note). We have met each other in different contexts and talked about things that concern the new media world. Somewhere we began discussing moving image. We have a material that we’re pretty sure will fit well at Spotify.

What is the transaction out with Spotify?

– I can not say something about. We have a contract and it is privacy at it.

– But for us the strategic profit that there is an incredible value for us to be there, both in value will be on Spotify’s new platform and that it pointing at our home base where all the material available.

Jan Scherman is a warm advocate of that – in this uncertain world of media – have the courage to invest and try things out.

– Everywhere there people who tell truths about where we are headed. But the truth is that nobody knows. Was it so that anyone knew we could abolish all media conferences that take place, where everyone will tell you that you know. In conclusion, my philosophy is that we press the accelerator to the floor, we test, investigate, try and change along the way. And it will navigate us right.

– We can talk target data and business plans until we die. But ultimately determines consumers. Those who do not dare try without belt and braces will not clear the future.

While SBS Discovery Sweden should be part of Spotify’s choice, with clips from popular programs in Channel 5, Channel 9 and Channel 11th

Second of Spotify’s partners are Perfect Day Media, Expressen and Swedish Radio.
