offensive words leads to authorities in Google Map search.
After it was revealed that racist keywords on Google Maps led to the White House, the company has now started to act. In the US, the map service cleaned the offending searches, but they are still in Sweden.

Several racist and sexist keyword in Swedish Google Maps leads to media companies and government agencies. Same thing with many swearing, sexual words and insults. “F * ttjävel” takes you for instance to the Equality Ombudsman, while “k * kfan” get hits on both LGBT site QX and publisher etc. “F * ttan” has previously led to newspaper Dagens Media, and “k * k” to Sveriges Radio.

According to a blog post from Google is the cause of the rule that people wrote disparagingly of some sites on forums and To search algorithm in Maps valued those posts too high. Now, Google has made an update that will remove the “majority” of these, but it has not reached Sweden yet.

– As the blog entry specifies the update will now be rolled out worldwide gradually and we will continue to refine our systems. But I have no accurate time, Google said Nordic PR manager Gustav Brusewitz in an email to IDG.se.

2007 happened to the search engine for a similar controversy when the so-called Google-bombing became popular. When people put up sites that linked the public figures with less pleasant keywords. It was resolved by a change in the search algorithm that made this type of link bombings are not valued as highly, and it’s a similar change which is now implemented in Google Maps.
