Minecraft will attract young people to the mining industry – New Technology

       

Behind the new special version of Minecraft stands Geological Survey of Sweden, SGU. In “Bettergeo” are faithful geology and new materials such as titanium, aluminum, tungsten, lititum and rare earth metals. They can for example be used to build lithium batteries and defibrillators in the game.

The aim is both to make the game more realistic and increase interest geology.

In the “Bettergeo” you find the different materials in their correct rock. This means that anyone who knows a lot about geology receive benefits.

– As a player you become even more treasure hunters and explorers when one realizes that in order to find the diamonds first have to locate the rock kimberlite, and that gold can hide both quartz veins and riverbeds, says Josephine Biro, at SGU in a press release.

Geology version will also be used to attract more young people to the mining industry.

– This is a great example of how we can work to attract more young people to apply for mining and quarrying. The skills needs of the industry are big and will get bigger. It is therefore important that we work in new ways to create interest in the sector are already in the lower ages, says Lennart Gustavsson, project manager for Mining Comp Region Västerbotten working to secure the mining industry’s future skills needs.
