Social Hackers developed praised warning services in 24 hours – IDG.se

The winning team consists of four students from Linköping University, studying cognitive science, graphic design, communication and media technology.

– You can a nice Egoboost of the students come in and compete with people who have large businesses and feed on these things, says Johan Holmlund, who together with Emma Melander, Olivia Cassander and Erik Sandrén took the top prize at this weekend’s hacking contest.

-Notify app
The app -Notify won Hack for Sweden
Hack Sweden held for the second year in a row, and this year assisted the twenty agencies and organizations with open data. In 24 hours, the contestants develop applications or services that use open government data.

– We held really on in one day, and slept four hours somewhere in the center, says Johan Holmlund.

The service they won with the name -Notify and does just what its name is. Swedes or others on visits can log on to the website, enter mobile number or email address and then receive information on accidents and disasters from different areas affecting one.

– I live in Linköping, but for example, I have a summer house outside Eskilstuna and relatives living in Jönköping, so I would like to have info on all three areas, although I do not find myself there at the moment. It is our service, says Johan Holmlund.

In September last year introduced a system where important public announcement (VMA) may also be sent to fixed and mobile telephony in the areas concerned. And since February, you can also get text messages with important messages on the mobile phone is registered to an address in the area where an accident or disaster.

– I’ll not to say that our service is better, you have to register yourself, but it is a good complement, says Johan Holmlund.

The gang behind -Notify has used data from the National Land Survey, with information on municipal and county borders, and compare it with the MSB data on accidents, disasters and major events. But so far it is not a fully operational service.

– We have is not real-time data, but we would like to see what happens right now. Our goal is to be able to get the data from other agencies, such as SOS Alarm, the Swedish Transport Administration or TNT, says Johan Holmlund.

But -Notify was is not the only winners. Dödsorsak.se shows the graph of the right, divided by region, gender and age. They took home the “best benefit of the public.” artDex is a sort of game where users can submit reports on animals to see in their local area and were considered to have the “best business value.” Best visualization went to an application for Hemnet that provides lots of information about the area as a residence located in that election result, rainfall and bathing.

And Johan Holmlund believe and hope that even -Notify to be put into practice.

– We hope that it becomes an authority in touch and say they want to buy our idea, or at least somehow give us financial compensation. We have developed an idea that is quite clever, but it would be great fun if someone was going to call and check on what we started.
