Self-propelled cars in Gothenburg 2017 – that is the goal! – CIO Sweden

At Volvo Cars glances it forward. Right now they are working actively with the research “autonomous drive ‘, self-driving cars. The goal is to already in 2017 initiate a test project with 100 self-propelled cars in Gothenburg, and together with the Swedish Transport Administration has already conducted a research in which magnets in the roadway used to help the car to determine its location.

– Naturally it attractive to work with systems that improve the safety of our drivers and all who are in the environment around the car. But self-driving cars also means that you can save the environment by avoiding congestion, while it allows those traveling in the vehicle can use their time for other things, says Volvo Group CIO Klas Bendrik.

If self-propelled cars to happen, they must be able to communicate with other vehicles, but also with the road system. Therefore, projects with multiple stakeholders: Swedish Road Administration, the Swedish Transport Administration, Lindholmen Science Park and the City of Gothenburg are some partners who participate.

Klas Bendrik think that Sweden is a good place to test self-propelled vehicles:

– Sweden is a unique environment. It is a small country with modern infrastructure and well-developed mobile communications. Therefore, we have the opportunity to be at the forefront, he says.

His hope is Now that testprojeket in Gothenburg will provide valuable information about yourself driving in practice.

– Many questions must be resolved, but the possibilities are endless!

The most challenging, , but also the most interesting M2M, is that the pace of development is increasing:

– We think often that the IT industry is fast forward – but this will completely explode in the coming years!
