Electric eels can not only paralyze their prey they can also take advantage of the electricity to get other fish to reveal where they are. According to a new research report.

Electric eels can generate a voltage up to 600 volts which may even affect people. For fishes are the eel assault weapons directly devastating when they become paralyzed and then become an easy target.

Now an American researcher at Vanderbiltuniversitetet in Tennessee shown how eels are also using their elvapen to reveal where a switch is located, writes Reuters. According to biologist Kenneth Catania sends eels less pulses around them while hunting.

These pulses emitted by two millisecond range, hits the fish that try to hide and get their muscles to contract and thus cause a slight water movement, a movement that eels quickly discoveries and then attacking prey.

– I have met a lot of interesting things during my research but there eels show up is perhaps the most amazing thing I ever witnessed, says Catania to the news agency.

– To be able to submit a voltage in the other animal’s nervous system and thereby relaxing the muscles that move is a pretty good trick!

The eels are common in the Amazon and the Orinoco and has cells that function as biological batteries.
