Telia’s tough 5g requirements at Ericsson – New Technology

It is five years since Telia had its world premiere at 4g in Stockholm and Oslo. It has been celebrated in Kista today, with both Ericsson and Telia Sonera’s top executives present.

Ericsson’s research director Sara Mazur also gave Ericsson’s vision of what is 5g, and Telia Sonera Development Manager Tommy Ljunggren gave her.

They have approximately the same vision of what 5g shall include, but there are also significant differences.

Tommy Ljunggren noted in particular that the one thing he lacked at Sara Mazur pictures was to 5g must withstand high speeds even in rural areas.

– And it is very important to us. 5g may have no clear gigabit speed even in sparsely populated areas, but certainly a few hundred megabits. So where needed maybe a new radio technology, he said.

Another thing that he did not see at Ericsson 5g images was the requirement that 5g must be able to transfer all television programs.

– It does not work over 4g today, and it’s something we want to do with 5g said Tommy Ljunggren.

He also warned Ericsson and any other vendors to hope to be able to charge high prices for 5g .

– Our revenues are under pressure. So you can not expect to 5g will be more expensive than 4g was. But on the contrary, 5g must become cheaper.

Tommy Ljunggren also noted again, as he had done earlier in Ny Teknik, Telia Sonera’s hope could be an early 5g.

– We always want to be early adopters out there, but if it means that we will be the first remains to be seen .

Last fall revealed Tommy Ljunggren its former requirement 5g of New Technology.
