Facebook buys Creandum investment – Realtid.se

Swedish technology company 13th Lab purchased by Oculus Rift, which Facebook acquired earlier this year for $ 2 billion.

The venture capital firm Creandum went in with a $ 700,000 in seed capital in a financing round in 2012. The investment was made through its third fund, which closed with EUR 135 million in capital in May 2013.

The transaction means that the Stockholm-based IT company with a focus on 3D technology finishing their projects and become part of the Oculus team with full focus on produktutevckling and research, as confirmed on the buyer’s part.

The process is also part of a larger transaction for Oculus, which while announcing that buying the technology company Nimble VR and connects to the Chris Bregler, a professor of computer science at New York University.

Currently not clear how much Oculus paid for the Swedish company. Last year, 13th Lab sales of 2.3 million.

Creandums general partner Fredrik Cassel says that the technology 13th Lab offers very sophisticated and revolves around developing advanced image analysis system for mobile.

– They have developed something that is unique and it’s fun to have been on that journey. It’s very complicated technology, but the company has made significant steps forward, he said.

At the same time he highlights Johan Gertell from 3 Sweden and Gustav Söderström from Spotify that merit attention in development since they went into the 13th Lab as angel investors before Creandum came in.
