Plain with poison in groundwater – New From the Sound

Skåne. Skånskt groundwater contaminated with pesticides. The new research from Lund University.

Eleven municipalities in Skåne included in the survey where both the old and new data have been analyzed. The results, presented in a dissertation, shows that pesticides are commonly found in the groundwater in Skåne, Lund University, writes in a press release.

– It is not good to find pesticides in groundwater. These types of substances are broken down slowly once they reached the ground, and in addition, it takes time for groundwater to be translated, says Maria Åkesson, geologist behind the thesis.
She hopes that her research will lead to increased groundwater monitoring and better groundwater protection .

– It is remarkable that we in Sweden have a relatively poor control of groundwater and its quality. Groundwater is one of our most important natural resources, and Sweden, besides, often at the forefront of environmental work in general, says Maria Åkesson in pressmeddelenadet. (NFO)
