- Microsoft is about to buy up “Minecraft” – Aftonbladet

game studio Mojang is behind the most successful Swedish game ever: “Minecraft.”

But soon the brand can be owned by an American company.

Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg now reports that Microsoft is about to buy Mojang.

The news has hit like a bombshell in the game world. Technology giant Microsoft wants to buy Swedish game studio Mojang – and according to sources familiar with the entire claims the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg that the Swedish owners are willing to accept the offer of more than two billion U.S. dollars (14.2 billion). The contract can be signed within days.

warned about independence

For many, these tasks as a shock. Mojangs founder – who is also the ‘Minecraft’ creator – Markus Persson has repeatedly defended Mojangs independent and should have turned down previous offers. When Persson responded to questions in a Reddit thread two years ago, he said that Mojangs long-term goal was to remain an indie studio.

Can have tired

According to Bloomberg, it is “Minecraft” -skaparen himself to have contacted Microsoft a few months ago regarding a takeover. Xbox boss Phil Spencer is said to have had several meetings with Persson and is reported to have a good relationship with the Swede.

Many consider it likely that Markus Persson tired of both his game and his company . In mid-June tweeted he follows after that got the crap out of some fans of “Minecraft’s” user agreement:

not Microsoft-exclusive

– Does anyone want to buy my share of Mojang so I can go on with my life? Getting hate to do something that is right is not my cup of tea.

“Minecraft” has sold more than 54 million copies over a variety of platforms, but if Microsoft buys Mojang will not invoke no exclusivity right, but let the game remain competitors in digital stores.
