He was Jack the Ripper “- Aftonbladet

126 years after the horrific crimes occurred is history’s greatest murder mystery solved.

It claims an amateur scout and a scientist, who after a DNA analysis points to the hairdresser Aaron Kosminski as Jack the Ripper.

– It is not at all unreasonable, says Marie Allen, a professor at Uppsala University and expert in forensic genetics.

It was in the late summer and fall of 1888 as the serial killer Jack the Ripper, or Jack the Ripper, ravaged in Whitechapel, east London. The Ripper murdered at least five women prostitutes but scientists claim that it may involve many more.

double homicide Sept. 30

The mystery surrounding Jack the Ripper and who He has over the years employed enormously people – scientists, police officers and private investigators.

The most talked about of the Ripper murders is the “double event” on September 30, 1888. then murdered two women the same night, Swede Elizabeth Stride (born Elizabeth Gustavsdotter) and Catherine Eddowes.

Stride got his throat cut in Dutfield’s Yard near Berner Street in Whitechapel. She was found by police at 1 o’clock at night. 45 minutes later anträffades the murdered and mutilated Eddowes in a square nearby. Her body was very hard usage.

It is based on the murder of Catherine Eddowes researcher Jari Louhelainen and businessman Russell Edwards able to track Jack the Ripper. The British Daily Mail talk about their research.

Eddowes blood of shawl

Russel Edwards bought a shawl at auction. Tyghalsduken was said to have belonged to the murdered Eddowes and have been found at the crime scene at Mitre Square.

Using the shawl researchers argue that they have been able to connect the victim with the killer and uncover the Ripper’s identity. Louhelainen found namely blood from Eddowes on the shawl. He then managed based on the old blood material isolate a specific DNA, called mitochondrial DNA, which is inherited through the female line.

– It uses mitochondrial DNA when you have very little material, or if it is older and destroyed. It is used in criminal investigations, says Marie Allen, a professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, Uppsala University, told Aftonbladet.

Major breakthrough

Genealogy work then found Louhelainen Karen Miller who is relatives in the direct line from the murder victim. At a DNA comparison could then conclude that the blood of shawl with almost 100 percent certainty came from Catherine Eddowes.

The discovery and matching was a major breakthrough and meant that the shawl was the most important piece in a very long time in the matter.

In the same shawl was also found traces of semen. Even this did Jari Louhelainen, with the help of Dr. David Miller, an expert in forensic science and genetics, isolate mitochondrial DNA.

Over the years, several men identified as Jack the Ripper. One of the suspects was Aaron Kosminski.

He was a Polish immigrant and worked as a hairdresser in Whitechapel at the time of the murders. Kosminski could when it came to never be tied to the crimes and he was later taken to a mental hospital.

Professor: “not unreasonable”

Now, however, the researcher Jari Louhelainen bind Kosminski to the murder of Eddowes . By comparing the DNA from the shawl with DNA from a woman in the direct line from Kosminskis sister Matilda has been able to establish that it is Kosminskis DNA in semen on the shawl.

Marie Allen, a professor in the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, Uppsala University, says it is not at all an unreasonable conclusion.

– Fixed mitochondrial DNA is not as high quality and relevance as normal DNA. There are many who may have the same profile, she says.
